The College was established in 1978 for the training of “Nurses’ aides” (now known as Junior Community Health Extension Workers (JCHEWS), later the school expanded and introduced more courses such as Community Health Extension Workers (CHEW) and Medical Laboratory Assistants. The school was in 1984 transferred to Gombe and later in September 1998 the school was re-established in Bauchi and situated within the then Specialists’ Hospital Bauchi to cater for the health needs of the present day Bauchi State after the creation of Gombe State from the then Bauchi State.
The statutory responsibility of the college is to train middle level health personnel to meet the demand of Primary Health Care services at the grass root. The permanent campus of the college was commissioned in 2008 and it was later upgraded to the status of a college during the administration of Mal. (Dr.) Isa Yuguda the then Executive Governor of Bauchi State on the 8 of November 2010.
